In 2025, the 90th edition of the Book Week will take place—an excellent opportunity for the museum to curate an exhibition in its Gallery about the origins of this literary week, the special Book Week Gifts, the iconic Book Ball, and, of course, the controversies that have surrounded it.
Drawing from its archives, the museum presents remarkable stories from the rich history of this cultural phenomenon. From the predecessor of the very first Book Week Gift and the manuscript of Hella S. Haasse’s The Black Lake to the notes and drafts of the 2025 Book Week author, Gerwin van der Werf—you’ll find it all in 90x Book Week: Literature on the Red Carpet.
But the Book Week is more than just history. This exhibition lets you experience the magic of this literary event for yourself. At the special selfie wall, step into the atmosphere of the Book Ball and have your photo taken with a quote from a legendary author.
